Azure vs Google Cloud-
Two of the leading players in the cloud service market are Microsoft Azure and GCP. While comparing Azure and Google Cloud migration, or at the time of changing providers, it seems essential to understand what is offered in terms of computing capabilities, storage, and pricing choices. As per the latest data of cloud computing markets its observed that almost 93 per cent organizations use at least a single application which is cloud-based also, in handling the security of business raw data and mostly all organizations use a multiple cloud strategy.
A great deal of time was taken by enterprises to develop faith in AWS Storage Service, which was launched in 2006, the application of cloud has now become a standard working tool. Selecting the cloud service is an essential strategy, hence the Information Technology department needs research before investing in the same.
Cloud-service app providers like Microsoft Azure, IBM, Google Cloud, Dell, Oracle, Salesforce and others make it simpler at all times for consumers to add/subtract the amount of capacity and use apps as and when needed. The various providers keep launching new and efficient services that enterprises can use.
In the article, we will observe closely the two largest cloud platforms in the industry: Microsoft Azure with 16% of market share and GoogleCloud Platform with 8 % share. AWS stands at the top with one-third share.
We’ll compare in different ways the two clouds-services so that it helps to choose the one that matches your enterprise needs in terms of cost and features available.
Microsoft Azure is a cloud service platform launched by Microsoft (2010). It is in competition with AWS in providing services of various domains mainly computing, networks, storage, and developer tool, also functions that help organizations to progress. Azure categorizes platforms as a service (PaaS), software as service (SaaS), also infrastructure as a service (IaaS). The developer can use services to manage services and applications via the cloud. It provides services like finance, HR, retail, scientific etc.
Azure has managed to emerge as the largest and successful commercial cloud service platform.
Google platform is a cloud platform launched by Google (2008). It’s written in Python, Java, Ruby and C. It provides services such as PaaS and Iaas also Server-less platforms. Google cloud platform is categorized into different platforms namely Google engine, Google computes Engine, Google Computing Cloud Platform Storage, Google Query.
GCP offers high-level storage, networking, computing and databases. It provides different options for the network, such as virtual-private cloud, cloud platform CDN and DNS, balancing load and various features. To conclude there are various options inside Google Cloud, which is mostly used by developers, as opposed to the line-of-business company workforce. Cloud machine learning platform engine, cloud platform video intelligence, cloud speech service API, Cloud Vision API and others also utilize machine learning in Google cloud.
Generally saying, Azure has been designed so as to run apps while handling data and storage for an organization which can optimally connect with systems that are Windows-based available on-premises. GCP, which takes points of pride in versatility and has the ability to host various systems, also is highly efficient at managing both the applications and organization process and development.
Whereas Google Cloud and AWS are concentrated on public platforms of cloud service and computing, Azure’s public cloud targets users wanting to operate and inter-operate by utilising their own hubs of data, where servers based on Windows are already running. To summarize, this implies Azure is focused on the hybrid option of cloud; Microsoft has focused on the same to contend with the cloud service leader in market share,i.e. AWS, also Google Cloud, renowned for multiple deployments of the cloud.
For using the services of Microsoft Azure, users are mandated to sign up and create an account of Microsoft, now it’s safe to assume most all businesses already possess Microsoft accounts. On completing the process, they have the option to launch various services under their own account in Azure’s mentioned limits, and such services thereafter are invoiced to their linked account. On a similar note, GCP mandates its users to create a Google Platform account to utilise the services.
Anyhow, GCP recognizes service usage as per project instead of as per account. According to the given model, various users might create multiple, different projects under a particular account. Under the organization’s setting, the model may be beneficial, permitting users to specify projected spaces for different divisions or sub-groups in a company.
Azure and GCP both give the service of Command LineInterfacealso known as CLI to interact with the resources and services. GCP is engaged in providing the CloudSDK, and azure provides the Window Command-Line. Each is an undivided Cloud interface for various services, which are cross-platformed, with binaries accessible for Linux, Windows. Also, in GCP, Cloud SDK can be used in your browser by simply using the Google Cloud Platform Shell.
Azure pricing ensures that the costing may be calculated by depending on the various classes of products the team engaged in development requires. The server hourly cost may range between $0.099 -$0.149/hour. Although, on measuring the costs per instance, it might seem inconsistent. Nevertheless, the prices are comparable to GCP and AWS when the price charged per GigaByte of Random-Access Memory is factored in.
Google Cloud uses the minute process of pricing. While Google cloud falls behind in the field of supplementary features and compensates it with cost-effectiveness. The cloud provides pay as per usage on the go pricing, by charging by usage per second which sets Google apart, it also offers discounts on basis of usage.
Azure is providing a well-rounded set of features and storage services, but can shows a steep learning curve, mainly for users who lack a background in Microsoft technology. Google Cloud offers fewer features but shines in storage pricing and ease of its use.
Google Cloud Platform cannot yet contend with the massive data structure of Azure but compensates for it with strong support cases and containers, and a smoother curve across all engagement.
Google Cloud competes with Azure in terms of price by providing flexible pricing for all cloud service. Whereas, Azure is providing a discounting model that seems beneficial for customers. Azure TCO can also be used to calculate the costs of Microsoft Azure.
