1. What is Human Resources?

Human Resource Management was originally known as personnel or people management. In the past, its role was quite limited. Within any company or organisation, H resource management is a formal way of managing people. It’s a fundamental part of any organization and its management. The main responsibilities of the personnel department include hiring, evaluating, training, and compensating of employees. The human resource department deals with any issues facing the staff in their working capacity within an organization. Human resources are concerned with specific work practices and how they affect the organization’s performance.

2. List of types of Human Resources

Knowing where human resource management falls at an organizational level is important. An organization is divided into several segments that work together to bring a particular product or service to the market. Each level contains its own set of functions to manage each different product or service.

Three Levels

  • Corporate Level
  • Business Level
  • Functional Level

Human Resource Management falls into the functional level.

Functional-Level Managers are responsible for specific business functions or operations that constitute a company or one of its divisions.

Human Resource Management’s responsibility at the operational level is strategy implementation and the execution of corporate and business-level plans.

Firstly, here are the things you need to know before you start a career in Human Resources :

A career in human resources is only seen mostly as recruiting. It is not confined to recruiting jobs, it is much more. 

There are a variety of different jobs that are prevailing in human resources. Responsibilities, job descriptions, and expertise vary depending on the job. It also varies from one organization to another. 

For example, if you’re working for a large company –

  • You would be dealing with programs and policies related to human resources.  
  • Directors of human resources would be handling diverse departments.
  • Special human resource managers deal with hiring and recruiting employees.

If you’re working for a small company-

You would be handling all of these factors of human resources.

A common service provided by human resource management in human resources careers is recruiting. Human resource management provides help and guidance to the candidates who apply and gets selected for the required job description.

Recruiting involves hiring new people who have graduated from their respective universities or institutes. Also, they hire people with experience.

Recruiters enhance the relationship between the company and its employees. They are constantly in touch with the candidates selected for the new job.

    This role assists directors and managers with executive tasks.
  • Human resources coordinator

    Coordinator Aids HR programs and functions under the supervision of the HR director or manager.
  • Human resources specialist

    This role comprises recruiting, interviewing, screening, and placing candidates into relevant employment opportunities.
  • Human resources generalist: Generalists are responsible for performing certain tasks related to the administration to keep the human resources department run smoothly.
  • Human resources manager: The manager has to oversee the whole work environment associated with the human resource department and ensure team members are accomplishing their duties and responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
  • Director of human resources: Director of human resources, also known as “HR directors”, is the chief head and involves many administration and management tasks. Their main role includes supervising the company’s human resource department to ensure that it is effective and lucrative. 

5. Traits Required In This Field

  • Kind of work needs to be carried for the companies.

When it comes to education in this field, it is quite diverse and may vary from one specific job to another. People can go for this job just by having a bachelor’s degree. The minimum requirement also varies from one organisation to another.

Some of the great degree options for people who want to get involved in this field include business administration, education, human services, communication, management, or in some cases, a liberal arts education. Depending on the specific job requirement you are looking up to, you may need more specialized education. 

Some jobs may require you to pursue a master’s degree in labour relations to be a human resource manager. You can find a career that provides jobs available dealing with benefits, compensation and dealing with payroll.

Human Resource Managers serve as the backbone of any organisation. They have a long blueprint for the organization to meet its mission and vision.
